Disciplines
Acro
Acrobatic Dance, or Acro as it is commonly referred to by dancers and dance professionals, is the beautiful fusion of classic dance technique and the precision and athleticism of acrobatic elements. Often defined by unique choreography, acro dancers seamlessly blend musicality, emotional expression, line and extension with acrobatic movements in a dance context.
For our dancers’ safety, TDC has 4 certified and experienced instructors that work with the Acrobatic Arts Syllabus.
Ballet
As the foundation of technique for many dance forms, Ballet allows students to develop discipline, body alignment, posture, core strength, coordination, and flexibility.
Our TDC instructors follow the internationally recognized Royal Academy of Dance syllabus (R.A.D.) and Progressive Ballet Technique syllabus to complement and enhance Ballet strength and technique. The dancers will be given the opportunity to go through the examination process in the years to come. Pointe training is also offered once a suitable level of strength and ability is achieved.
Contemporary
Contemporary dance is a style of expressive dance that combines elements of several dance genres including Modern, Jazz, Lyrical and Classical Ballet. Contemporary dancers strive to connect the mind and the body through fluid dance movements.
Hip Hop
Our HipHop classes are a dynamic and high-energy style of dance focused on teaching the foundational movements, techniques, and styles associated with Hip Hop dance. In this class, students explore various elements of Hip Hop culture, including Popping, Locking, Party Dances, Breaking, and Freestyle. Hip Hop classes encourage creativity and confidence, offering dancers the opportunity to develop their unique style while working on coordination, agility, and stamina.
Jazz
Jazz is a very energetic dance form that includes jumps, turns, kicks and floor work. Jazz takes into account elements from Tap, Ballet, Jazz music, and African-American rhythms and dance, all of which come from similar roots. Body coordination, core strength, Ballet training and flexibility are key elements for success in this genre.
TDC offers ADAPT Jazz and urban Jazz training.
ADAPT stands for “Associated Dance Arts for Professional Teachers”. ADAPT teachers work professionally to maintain the highest standard of dance training excellence the country has to offer. These dance teachers are leaders in quality dance training. They teach the love of dance and movement not only to the elite student, but to the recreational dancer as well.
Lyrical
Lyrical is a style of dance created by merging Ballet and Jazz dance techniques. Lyrical dancing is performed to music with lyrics to inspire movements to express strong emotions the dancer feels from the lyrics in the chosen song. Because Lyrical focuses on the expression of strong emotion, the style concentrates more on individual approach and expressiveness than the exact precision of the dancer’s movements.
Pre-Pointe
Pre-Pointe is a class separate from the regular ballet class. This allows students ample time to learn the proper strength and alignment necessary for pointe work. It also allows the teachers to assess the student’s readiness which will help reduce injury once in their shoes.
Our teachers use the Perfect Pointe System to assess dancers for:
- $Basic Ballet Technique
- $Foot & Ankle Strength
- $Pointe Range
- $Anatomical Structure of the Foot
- $Turnout Range and Control
- $Core Control
- $Maturity & Physical Development
Pointe
Pointe is the part of classical Ballet training, which requires the dancers to wear Pointe shoes. This allows them to dance on fully stretched, tips of the toes.
After at least a year of Pre-Pointe and with the approval of a TDC instructor after careful assessment, the dancer will now be able to commence Pointe work. Please note that there is also an age requirement to proceed to Pointe.
Tap
Tap is a technical dance that is performed wearing shoes fitted with metal taps. It is characterized by rhythmical movement while tapping the toes and heels.
TDC utilizes Al Gilbert and ADAPT Tap syllabus hand in hand with more urban movement and intricate musicality in our tap classes.
